Orion and Canis Major over the light pollution of Haute-Savoie
by grux on Feb.12, 2011, under Observations, Report
Although the place where I practise astrophotography et astronomical observation in Haute-Savoie is relatively good (the Sky Quality Meter usually gives 21), it is surrounded by the light pollution.
During the night of 5 February 2011 when I tried to photograph the galaxies M81 and M82 in Ursa Major (indeed, it has completely missed … I will treat the image, but I probably wouldn’t publish it), I took the opportunity to make some small pictures of the landscape
night all around.
Below, the majestic constellations of Orion and Canis Major, setting down, emerging with difficulty the halo created by cities. I found the show both beautiful and sad where the “dark” sky (well not too bad either) constrasts with the thick blanket of light.
We can see here on the bottom right La Roche sur Foron and the halo just above is due to Annecy
