Walking in Haute-Savoie : to the Mont Baron

by on May.08, 2011, under Report

During my summer vacation 2010, I resumed with my friend small mountain walks. After the Mont Forchat, with a different of heightof about 150m, (and with a cheese fondue in the stomach) and the Grande Pointe des Journées, with its difference of height of 287 m, we decide to keep the same difficulty.

The choice is a walk to the Mont Baron above Bernex (in France) and near the Dent d’Oche.

The start of this walk is at Pré-Richard at the end of the tarred road, near the restaurants. A large track goes to the farms of Pré-richard. Two options : either pass by them, or take the track on the left just before them.

In this walk, I passed by the farmsand met pigs, goats, …

If you choose this path, you have to come back by following the foothpath to the bottom of the sky slope between to forests of firs. The track “before the farms” goes to the same point.

The footpath climbs on the left of the ski slope: this is the first “big” climbing. Climbing a sky slope by foot is not very pleasant. At the top of this path, we take the GR5 (Sentier du Balcon du Léman), and go on our right.

The footpath, passing alongside the crest, goes through small woods and meadows. At the second one, above the cabins “Les Boeufs”, we can see the Mont Baron waiting for us.

We keep going on the GR5 until a path that go on our right for climbing to the top (announced 25 min climbing). This is the second “big” climbing. Under the sun of June, it’s quite warm !

At the top, we can find a cross and a beautiful view over the Dent d’Oche, Bernex and the Chablais.

The way back is by the same path.
