Walking in Haute-Savoie : Lake Arvouin and Pointe d’Arvouin
by grux on Jun.13, 2011, under Report
Without intending to be chauvinistic about my region, I love my region (Savoie / Alpes du Nord). Indeed, although I do not go on holiday at the other end of the France or the world (I’m not going further than the Portugal), I enjoy every time the beautiful landscapes Alps offer me: what makes the holidays to do their effect
I performed the walk that I present here in June 2011 (I’m a little late in sorting my pictures).
The walk to Lake and Point of Arvouin begins at a place called Sevan Devant above the Chapelle d’Abondance.
It is ranked “very easy” to “easy” depending on the choice of destination:
- Lake of Arvouin corresponds to about 20 minutes walking with elevation 63 m (very easy)
- Pointe d’Arvouin is about 1h15 walking with elevation of 363 m (easy)
Half a day is enough for this walk. I’ve started to walk at 8:45. The climb to the lake and much of the climb to the peak was performed in the shade: this is especially nice compared to an after sun afternoon hitting the top of the skull.
Arriving at the lake (at about 9 am-9.15 am), I enjoyed a lake as smooth as a mirror allowing me to play with the reflections, of a quiet and relaxing atmosphere (I was the “only” on site ), and a light sweet enough.
The Pointe d’Arvouin, even if not the highest peak in the area, offers a magnificent view over the surrounding summits: the Cornettes de Bise, the Mont de Grange, the Linleu … and “obviously” on the lake Arvouin. (well, that day was not as clear, the sun occasionally playing hide and seek in the clouds).
In short, to me, it’s a beautiful walk accessible to many, especially for the lake.
