Inside the Cygnus constellation, near Sadr (Gamma Cygnus)
by grux on Oct.07, 2011, under Creations
I’m late in the processing of my astrophotographs. However, until mid September, I only have 3 or 4 of them. I hope making up for lost time knowing that I took about ten more pictures between mid September to beginning of October.
Well…
The picture I show you here below has been taken last 24th June 2011. The photographic field is in the Cygnus constellation near the notable star Sadr (Gamma Cygni).
The Cygnus constellation is often a favorite target because it contains a lot of red nebulae showing presence of hydrogen. A well-known one in this constellation is the North America (NGC 7000) nebula near the star Deneb (alpha Cygni).
<< image champ + constellation >>
The size of this field is quite small : about 2.30° x 1.54°, knowing that the angular distance between the stars Deneb (alpha Cygni) and Albireo (beta Cygni) is about 22° (the size of the Moon is about 0.5° or 30 minutes).
This picture only shows a part of the IC1318 nebula surrounding th star Sadr. I only show a part of th Butterfly nebula (on the bottow left corner).
Astrophysical information here : Sadr (the big shining star) is at about 1500 light years away, the nebula IC1318 is as about 3700 light years away.
